Chamonix is waiting for you...

Chamonix, in the winter, transforms into a snow heaven with 650cm of snowfall in the last year! The village and valley are transformed into a winter wonderland with snow-covered chalets, iced capped trees, and glistening lakes in the winter sun's reflection. Luscious green hills, clear blue lakes, and bright skies can be seen in the summer. No matter the season, Chamonix provides all year; offering endless activities, amenities and events. It's also an August collection home location and a popular destination for many families.

This region in the Alps provides you with unique access to this breathtakingly magnificent location, which offers all year round scenery. Skiers with more experience may enjoy some of the world's most thrilling off-piste adventures, while the lovely town and year-round athletic events ensure that everyone can enjoy this spectacular environment. Chamonix is an awe-inspiring area with romantic snow-capped mountains and panoramic views of the Matterhorn, the Western Alps, and across the Pont Helbronner to Italy.

If you ever find yourself in Chamonix, take a look below and you'll find some personal recommendations that you'll see in the August Recommends guide; full of things you can see, eat and do in Chamonix.

Welcome to Chamonix...

Once you've landed at Geneva international airport, you'll jump into a taxi to take you to the sweet village of Chamonix, during your drive you'll come across the wonders of snowcapped trees and beautiful scenery; preparing you to become accustomed to the never ending views in Chamonix.

Depending on your arrival in Chamonix, the late afternoon is the perfect time for the most spectacular sunlight, golden hour; a winters warm welcome and here you can breathe in the crisp, clear Alpine air and take in your surroundings!

Walk around the town and pop to the supermarché

In Chamonix there is an array of supermarchés, boulangeries, boucherie and wine stores; you'll be able to find something for everyone. Take yourself to the stores and enlighten yourself with the authenticity the stores deliver and some even feel like they've stood still in time! At August, we personally love this store so we've included it in the August Recommends guide with the contact details and the location.

Le Refuge Payot is the go-to spot for traditional Savoyarde meats, cheeses, and wines. With three shops in town it’s the perfect place for browsing and picking up speciality items like cheese for fondue, especially cheeses made nearby like the Beaufort Chalet d’Alpage and Tomme de Savoie.

Grab a bite to eat, or sit down and admire the surrounding views

Once you've walked around the town, you'll end up in the main square and restaurant Josephine is a great place if you get hungry after having looked at the Eglise Saint Michel, come here and have a snack! Joséphine serves delicious French cuisine and it’s worth visiting this restaurant for the flavourful oysters, fish soup, and entrecote or if you prefer sweet, parfait, crepes, and croissants are available too.

Whether you'd like to tuck in and taste all the delights or simply have a hot chocolate and people watch, there's no better place than Josephines!

Not sure what activities to take part in?

While you're out in the square, pop to the Office De Tourism where you can find information about the town of Chamonix, the events on, activities, places to see and how to get around the town! Even their reception desk speaks 9 different languages including Swedish and Dutch.
