How our latest committed family, Peter, discovered a better way to holiday home ownership
Families tend to come across August during their overseas home search and for a lot of people, their intrigue in the August concept gets the better of them. Many request to find out more, subsequently realising August is a better option of holiday home ownership for their family, a different way, and eventually commit to being a part of the August community.
For one of our committed August families, Peter, his August discovery was on purpose, he was deliberately looking for a different way to own a second home abroad that made sense, weighing up financial investment vs the usage vs the effort of maintenance and comfort. As a busy businessman that works around the clock but greatly values private time, August resonated with Peter because the cost, accessibility, flexibility and low maintenance outweighed the typical homeownership woos that prevented him from previously taking on the commitment of owning homes aboard on his own.
Since Peter joined August over Summer, a lot has happened at August and also with his busy schedule so it’s with much pleasure that Peter has found some time in his busy schedule to tell us a bit more about him.
Meet Peter and why August made sense for him
Welcome to August, Peter, can you please tell us a bit about yourself and family?
I have a big extended family and a lot of friends that live all around Europe. I travel a lot for work but I’m based in Copenhagen. I work in technology and it never really seems to stop. That’s the benefit of the internet I guess, always being on so even when I am away visiting family and friends or travelling for leisure, it’s important that there’s connection and I’m spending time at places that are comfortable.
How you discovered August tends to be quite different compared to other families, can you please explain how you made the August discovery?
I liked the idea of owning homes abroad but I couldn’t justify the effort, cost and the fact that I’d be stuck going to the same place. So being in the business of information and technology, I made it my mission during my research for homes and destinations that I looked into different ownership models, including property clubs, timeshare, other fractional ownerships, and long term rentals. All of which just wasn’t quite right.
When I first discovered August, there weren’t any homes yet, I had many meetings with Melie and Nico but within the first meeting, I knew I was going to be a part of something special because there isn’t anything like this in the market.
This year has been a year of unknowns for a lot of people so the fact that you have most of the families committed and there are two homes is fantastic! It's great to see that things are still moving. I'm sure had there not been a pandemic, we would have had all 5 homes!
Why August and not property clubs, timeshare, other fractional ownerships, and long term rentals?
The real ownership side of things where there’s equity that will increase in value, not having to deal with the physical homes, administration and knowing the liveable comfortable homes are finished to high specs are what really made me decide this was right. I’m time-poor so whilst I don’t want to deal with the hassle, when I do get the time to break, I look forward to it but I want it on my terms. I don't just want to buy a block of time, or not really own anything. All of which the August model caters for. I’ve been looking for a while and I've not really come across anything else like this.
Which August home are you most looking forward to?
I’m a bit biased because I enjoy the warmer locations so Provence will be my first trip. Also The Cotswolds, I have a team in the UK so when I’m in the UK, I can use The Cotswolds home for short trips, so I’m looking forward to that. Although my family and friends love the cold so I’m sure Chamonix will be a popular home. The location is easy for everyone to get to and everyone loves to ski so it will be great to host ski trips.
How do you intend to use them?
We get given a decent amount of weeks, another point of difference actually as other providers don’t tend to allow this many weeks. I probably won't be able to use up 12 weeks on my own but with the help of family and friends, I’m sure I won’t have any issues. The last-minute bookings that don’t deduct from our accounts are also great and will work well with my last-minute trips or for those times I just want to change up the scene when I'm working from home.
